The Akhu are said to be a subgroup of the Akha. The Akhu are a very small group having only four villages in the Keng Tung region, but many more villages are known in the Mong Khat area, north of Keng Tung.

Until recently, Akhu people wore loom-woven cloth colored with vegetable dyes.
