The grand Lisu New Year celebrations held at each village go on for three days. There are very few Lisu villages in the Keng Tung area.

For the Lisu girls, their Lunar New Year season is their yearly chance to catch the eye of their future husband. Their long pastel dresses worn over pants, and black turbans with silver accessories have been the enduring style. In the Lisu custom, when an infant begins to speak, a pig is killed and a great feast is held in the village.

The Lisu people are Tibeto-Burman ethnic group who inhabit mountainous regions of Myanmar, southwest China, Thailand, and the northeastern Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. Half of the estimated population of 1.2 million live in Myanmar, most of whom migrated in the 1700s. There are only a few Lisu villages in the Keng Tung area.
