Diverse Ethnic GroupsSunjim

The Sunjim are found in the vicinity of Mong Khat of Eastern Shan State. In recent years, as a result of studies of their language characteristics there has been speculation that they may be a branch of the Tai-Loi, a subgroup of the Shan, along with the "Kala" near Keng Tung.

The language spoken by the Sunjim is similar to that of the Palaung. As with other ethnic minorities of Myanmar’s mountainous border regions, their traditions and customs are quietly vanishing.
