Diverse Ethnic GroupsTai-Loi

The Tai-Loi are also called "Ka-La" or “La” in Keng Tung area. "Tai-Loi" actually means “Mountain Tai” in Shan. As of now, there are only 6 known villages of the Tai-Loi people in Myanmar, which are all in the high mountain ranges north of Keng Tung. They are a rare ethnic group numbering only a few hundred in Myanmar, Laos, and China. Their language is said to be a nearly extinct variety.

Women wear black turbans, and men are known to be good hunters. Mountain tea grown by the Tai-Loi is quite delicious.

Along the road called the "China Road" by the people of Keng Tung, there is a Tai-Loi village with about 35 homes. The villagers seem to be rich with happiness.
