Diverse Ethnic GroupsTai-Yai

Tai-Yai means "Greater Shan", and are also called Shan-Gyi. Scattered through Shan state, they have traditionally been wet-rice cultivators.

The Tai-Yai, are the largest subgroup of the Shan. The Shan people number about 6 million in total, and are the second most populous race in Myanmar after the Bamar race.
